    One from the “It never ceases to amaze me …” file.

    Despite how many times those in the know answer
    questions on major forums … often in depth, someone
    always seems to ask the identical question the very
    next day, and forum members act like it’s the first time
    they’ve seen it.

    Here’s one that I’ve seen asked and answered 100 times …

    “What is a joint venture? … how is it different from being
    a simple affiliate partner?”

    One documented general definition of a Joint Venture is
    “A partnership or conglomerate, formed often to share
    risk or expertise” …

    The typical Joint Venture partnership we most often come
    across is an endorsed mailing in return for everything from
    actual participation in the product’s development to
    setting up a reciprocal mailing in the future, and usually
    includes more perks and higher commissions than the
    merchant would reward a standard affiliate partner … just
    because the logical and preferred method of tracking and
    managing the endorsed mailing style of Joint Venture is by
    using affiliate program software, it does NOT mean JV
    partners should be treated the same (occasional email
    blasts from the merchant when a new promotion comes up).
    JV partners, IMHO, should be contacted one at a time …
    personally, in addition to any mass mailings being made
    during a promotional period … phone calls, instant message,
    physical meeting (if possible) … “what can I do to make it
    easier for you to sell my product?” … “what can I do for
    you, in reciprocation?” … see the difference between a JV
    partner and a standard affiliate, already?

    Case in point …

    I recently helped a well known IMer bring on dozens of new
    partners … many of them well know, for a relatively high
    profile launch … his idea of interaction and motivation was
    to send a launch notification and proceed to go away on
    vacation …

    That group of partners could have easily sold 1000 plus
    units of that product … their combined promotions
    resulted in less than 50 conversions.

    His response was of the … ‘we got dogged! … no one hit
    the send button! … I’m never going to back those @#$%&,
    again!’ variety …

    Was it the JV partner’s fault?

    IMHO … yeah, somewhat … if they had no intention of
    promoting it would have been nice if they responded with
    a ‘no thanks’, ‘the product didn’t live up to my
    expectations’, etc. … I’ve made my feeling known about
    that in the past.

    BUT …

    Because these ARE JV partners that you’re probably
    going to want to work with in the future … create and
    nurture a relationship of mutual benefit with, and there is
    so much competition out there for their attention and
    participation … you simply MUST treat them like the JV
    partners they are … and NOT just a faceless sea of


    Again … I’d like to start doing weekly calls via the

    JV Notify Pro Updates are generally mailed twice a week
    … on Monday/Tuesday and Thursday/Friday, with an
